I love it because is so incredible elegant, the quintessential LBD. And also I wanted something new for Berenice, as soon as I saw this dress I thought it was just the right thing for her to wear!
I used a gabardine fabric and some black ribbon. The shoes are by The Vogue HK (I've ordered some new accessories from them and can't wait to get them!).
I'm pretty proud with the result, I'm seldom truly satisfied but I absolutely adore Berenice in this dress!
As you can see, I couldn't stop photographing her! She's the perfect 60's model, classic but full of spirit!
I even found Poppy's body fun to pose (and at first I nearly hated it) who knows, maybe I should think about adding a new Poppy to my collection!
This issue soundtrack is one of my favourite songs from my all time favourite musical: My fair lady, again a hommage to Audrey and the 60's: "I've grown accostumed to her face" by the great Nat King Cole

On the next instalment: Contemporary LBD by Karl Lagerfeld
Hello from Spain: that dress is my favorite. I love the clothes of that era. Very simple and elegant. Poppy is very pretty and elegant. Fabulous photos. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteThank you Marta, the 60's are my favourite era too, and Dior and Givenchy are the quintessential elengance IMHO.

Billa, I simply love this little black dress and it looks absolutely fab on your Poppy! I too am a big Audrey Hepburn fan. BTW, your Asian pieces in the photos are also the bomb! Great photos all around.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phyllis, the two Dior LBDs are among my best. And this one fits perfectly Berenice (Poppy) character.....she's so sophisticated!
DeleteHi Billa, Poppy is the perfect model for this elegant, very feminine dress, love it! Very classy and the fabric is beautiful, great work! Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Night Owl, I like this fabric (cotton gabardine) is very easy to sew and I bought several different patterns, I've been sewing a lot lately and can't keep up with the pictures!
DeleteExquisite craftsmanship!
ReplyDeleteThanks Muff!
DeleteI always get excited when I see a post from you, because I'm anxious to see what outfit you are recreating next. I love this dress and Poppy wears it well. Your dio looks great, too. I love Poppy, so seeing another one in your collection wouldn't bother me at all.
ReplyDeleteThank you Vanessa. It's such fun picking a dress and trying to recreate it in scale, sometimes is frustrating, but when you succeed is so rewarding! I love Poppy too....I must confess I'm tempted to buy another one, I can't choose between the "Twiggy" one or the girl from UCLA ......we shall see, I'm not completely out of my "male dolls binge" lately i've been buying only guys....
DeleteI must confess I'm a bit put off by the quality of the body of Poppies, is very poseable but the plastic is not as good as FR and Nu-Face.....
Kisses Billa
Billa, your photos are perfect in every way from the furniture in the diorama to the choice of the model. Definitely agree with you when it comes to fashions of the 1960's. I have the whole set of Audrey Hepburn DVDs with her dressed in those beautiful Givenchy dresses. The Poppies have that quintessential pouty look made famous by that era's supermodels models like Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton and Marisa Berenson. (The latter is the granddaughter of the late Elsa Schiaparelli.) Your dress is spot on! Just gorgeous! Big hugs, April
ReplyDeleteThank you April, Berenice is my perfect 60's model....maybe I shall add the "twiggy Poppy" to my collection....she's a bit expensive, but all Poppies are...I didn't know that Marisa Berenson was Schiapparelli's granddaugher....I love pieces of trivia!!!
Deletenow I'm taking a break from LBDs and I'm preparing a whole set of floral dresses....I'm a bit monomaniac.....LOL
Kisses Billa
Berenice looks beautiful and elegant in her little black dress! Wonderful photography!
ReplyDeleteThank you Roxanne, Berenice is a bit of a stuck up, but in reality she's a nice girl....
DeleteGorgeous! That's a perfect 1960s dress and stunning on her.
ReplyDeleteThanks Smaller Place!
ReplyDeleteAmazing your dress interpretation Billa, love your poppy hair very similar to that Era.
ReplyDeletebuona giornata.
