Little Black Dress 5: the 60's - The Golden Era - Dior

The 60's were the golden era of the LBD, I think mostly thanks to Breakfast at Tiffany's and the asounding collection Givenchy designed for Audrey. But the 60's were also the era of the empire waist, so I picked this wonderful dress by Dior.

I love it because is so incredible elegant, the quintessential LBD. And also I wanted something new for Berenice, as soon as I saw this dress I thought it was just the right thing for her to wear!
I used a gabardine fabric and some black ribbon. The shoes are by The Vogue HK (I've ordered some new accessories from them and can't wait to get them!).

I'm pretty proud with the result, I'm seldom truly satisfied but I absolutely adore Berenice in this dress!

As you can see, I couldn't stop photographing her! She's the perfect 60's model, classic but full of spirit!

I even found Poppy's body fun to pose (and at first I nearly hated it) who knows, maybe I should think about adding a new Poppy to my collection!

This issue soundtrack is one of my favourite songs from my all time favourite musical: My fair lady, again a hommage to Audrey and the 60's: "I've grown accostumed to her face" by the great Nat King Cole

On the next instalment: Contemporary LBD by Karl Lagerfeld

    1. Thank you Night Owl, I like this fabric (cotton gabardine) is very easy to sew and I bought several different patterns, I've been sewing a lot lately and can't keep up with the pictures!

  5. I always get excited when I see a post from you, because I'm anxious to see what outfit you are recreating next. I love this dress and Poppy wears it well. Your dio looks great, too. I love Poppy, so seeing another one in your collection wouldn't bother me at all.

    1. Thank you Vanessa. It's such fun picking a dress and trying to recreate it in scale, sometimes is frustrating, but when you succeed is so rewarding! I love Poppy too....I must confess I'm tempted to buy another one, I can't choose between the "Twiggy" one or the girl from UCLA ......we shall see, I'm not completely out of my "male dolls binge" lately i've been buying only guys....
I must confess I'm a bit put off by the quality of the body of Poppies, is very poseable but the plastic is not as good as FR and Nu-Face.....

  6. Billa, your photos are perfect in every way from the furniture in the diorama to the choice of the model. Definitely agree with you when it comes to fashions of the 1960's. I have the whole set of Audrey Hepburn DVDs with her dressed in those beautiful Givenchy dresses. The Poppies have that quintessential pouty look made famous by that era's supermodels models like Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton and Marisa Berenson. (The latter is the granddaughter of the late Elsa Schiaparelli.) Your dress is spot on! Just gorgeous! Big hugs, April

    1. Thank you April, Berenice is my perfect 60's model....maybe I shall add the "twiggy Poppy" to my collection....she's a bit expensive, but all Poppies are...I didn't know that Marisa Berenson was Schiapparelli's granddaugher....I love pieces of trivia!!!
now I'm taking a break from LBDs and I'm preparing a whole set of floral dresses....I'm a bit monomaniac.....LOL
