Tartan Craze a Hommes Collection

I've been talking about this project for a while, and now, finally, I'm ready to present you the complete Tartan Craze collection!

Let's go with 20th Century Fox's  fanfare!!!!

I had to stop at some point as I still have several more ideas, but now with springtime finally coming by I have to move on to something else!
First of all let me show you some of the sources of inspiration for this collection:
Ragandbones, Moschino, AuJourLeJour and Valentino's collection from 2013! (I haven't been able to identify the fourth picture, any ideas?)

The thing that impressed me most while preparing the collection is the versatility of the tartan fabric for hommes fashions, from ultra casual, sport and formal, tartan adds a great accent to every style!
What is missing from this collection are formal suits, but as I'm planning a collection  of formal outfits I will sew at least a couple of them (with a  complete tutorial) next fall.

Having trumpeted this collection so much I also took some time to put together some decent pictures, here are the boys on the catwalk (Note: Nicola is wearing in fact a Prince of Whales , but in scale looked more like tartan):

Enrico, Taddeo, Sebastiano

Armando, Bartolomeo, Giacomo
Carlo, Nicola, Goffredo

Ever since I sew the first suit in this collection I envisioned a "Highlands lookbook" for the guys. Scotland is one of the (several) places I haven't visited yet, and Sasha's pictures are on film, so I had to draw upon stock pictures from the internet as backdrops. I believe these are the perfect setting for the collection!

Highlands Lookbook

Lords of the manor, our Supermodels:
Sebastiano (Valentino) Carlo (AuJourLeJour)
The most elegant dudes of the house in casual outfits
Taddeo (Original Billa) Armando (Unknown)
The trendies ones
Bartolomeo (Moschno) Enrico (RagAndBones)
Classic Brit Giacomo - Goffredo can't resist wearing a tie, even in the middle of nothing
Giacomo - Goffredo (Original Billa)
Sunset on the manor, a pensive Nicola ponders about his upcoming visit to Dublin and the girls he shall meet there
Nicola (Original Billa)
I look forward to hear which is your favourite style and picture!
Kisses Billa

  1. All are very nice! It is hard to pick a favorite, so I will pick two! I like Armando and Carlo's looks the best! Having said that, I think my Hommes would look good in almost any of these looks too!

    1. Hi Muff, thank you! I'm partial to them too, maybe is the pattern, maybe is that they are my fave guys....

  5. That is a lot of tartan!

My two favorites are Armando (it takes a real man to wear green as a neutral, plus I like the color scheme of his tartan) and Goffredo (the plaid-on-plaid jacket and vest are stunning).

    1. Yep, in the end I had crossed eyes!
I didn't thought of that, in fact Armando is quite a guy, even though he reminds me of DiCaprio's character in Django Unchained, so I perceive him as a bit of a psyco too....LOL
Thanks for the love for Goffredo's outfit, I loved every stitch of his suit.
It is impossible for me to pick a favourite, so it is very interesting to read your opinions!!!

  6. Yay, the whole collection. Awesome job! Just finding the right scale material is impressive. I love them all, but I'm partial to the blue and green and the reds. And of course the pictures are phenom as usual.

    1. Thanks Vanessa! In fact it was impossible to find right scale material, I did my best with full scale patterns, working around them, I couldn't believe the final result to look so realistic!
Now I have to think about a Femmes Tartan collection......or the guys will end up using up all the fabrics, and the girls should kill me!
A Big Kiss, hope you're feeling better!

  8. APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE!!!! What an incredible collection, Billa. You've interpreted those menswear trends beautifully for your collection and you brought them to life in grand style!!! I too, have a hard time choosing because I live them all. Fortunately for me, the guys aren't with me here in Paris, otherwise I'd be getting some pretty hard glances from my crew. Also, I love the backgrounds...breathtaking as usual!! APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE (Standing ovation!!!)

    1. Bow, Bow, Bow...Thank you so much April! sewing these was a thrill and was real fun! While I was sewing these I always kept in mind a phrase you wrote in a post about male fashion some time ago: that it has not to be necessarily boring, so I dared!
I'm truly happy with the results this time!
Have a great time in Paris!

  9. I like the solo Nicola photo best. He looks dreamy and gothic with the castle to his side. His dog has run forward. The wind is at his back ...

Oh pardon! I am weaving a story from your photo! Tsk! Je vous prie de m'excuser ;-)

I'm amazed, I actually wanted to include Winston the dog in this photoshoot then I forgot and didn't have time to add it!
